About me

verity250My career started with teaching English to adults in Italy and the UK. After seven years I made the switch into publishing. I went freelance in 2010, having worked in-house at Cambridge University Press, as a development editor and then as a publisher of general adult courses at Pearson Longman.

Besides holding the DELTA teaching qualification, I have had a solid training in editorial techniques including author management, copy and proof editing, prioritising and negotiating. I regularly update my editorial skills. For example, this year, I’m enrolled on ‘Editing Digital Products’ at the Publishing Training Centre.  I’m also a certified Advanced Professional Member of the Society for editors and proofreaders.

Many people go into publishing because they want to escape the classroom. I went into publishing because I wanted to make improvements to what happened in the classroom. I’m passionate about teaching methodology and derive pleasure from working on courses which have been informed by the latest findings in English language teaching research. It’s this interest in teaching practice which has led to me working on books such as Classroom Management Techniques by Jim Scrivener.

Over the years, I’ve become more involved in developing content which is designed to answer specific learning needs. Editing digital material which provides a personalised learning experience forms part of what I do. I also enjoy the intellectual challenge of editing English for academic purposes and exam preparation courses.
